Minthis Hills Golf Course
Minthis Hills lies in the grounds of a historic twelfth century monastery and the course makes excellent use of the former monastic gardens. This is the oldest course in Cyprus and is a must for all fans of well-established golf courses. Visit Minthis Hills to see where it all began!
The Minthis Hills fairways are set against a mesmerising mountain view backdrop. Fragrant trees which can be found around the course include; olive, almond, walnut and even grapevines from the historic gardens. This is the highest course in Cyprus, with an altitude of around 550m above sea level. The cooling mountain breezes are welcomed by many visiting golfers during the summer months.
Remodelers Tom Mackenzie and Martin Ebert have elected to narrow many of the fairways from the original design. This change pushes players to carefully consider every shot. Varied challenged include sloped and undulating fairways, large areas of rough, 35 bunkers and the tendency for a gentle breeze to blow. Although there are not many water hazards on the course, the 13th hole has an island green which has tripped up even some of the strongest players. The double looped designed means that it is possible to get back to the clubhouse for refreshments in between the front nine and the back nine. The beautiful clubhouse has been sympathetically designed to fit in with the Cypriot mountains. There is a lounge, terrace and cocktail bar to provide refreshments for golfers. Players can also dine in the lovely restaurant area, which serves local and international cuisines. Practice facilities at the Minthis Hills course include a small driving range and practice putting and chipping greens. A small Pro Shop stocks leading golf brands.
