There are 140 stylish rooms and suites at the resort. All of these rooms are light, open and spacious, with a small desk and breakfast table. Upgraded room types also have a dedicated living area. All suite accommodation has either a patio or a balcony so that guests can enjoy the temperate Emilia-Romagna climate.
Guests can relax and unwind at the award-winning Versana Spa. There is a mixture of indoor and outdoor swimming and wellness areas, including 5 outdoor pools of various sizes. Sensory spa areas cater for every taste, with varied equipment such as a bio-sauna, Finnish sauna, an ice waterfall, whirlpool seating, a steam bath and sensory showers. There is even a Turkish-style Hammam onsite, where visitors can indulge themselves in an ancient relaxation ritual. Visitors may choose from different wellness “paths” to achieve the desired effect. There is also an extensive treatment menu, including facials, massages and other personal care treatments.
Activity fans will enjoy what the resort has to offer. There are tennis courts and squash courts on site, as well as a small basketball practice area. Walking trails can be found across the 20 hectares of the resort, for those who would prefer to keep active. Ask one of the resort wellness experts for tips on the most scenic routes through the area. Mountain bikes and city bikes can also be borrowed for free for those who want to enjoy the rolling foothills of Varignana.
Palazzo di Varignana has multiple different restaurants and bars to choose from. Il Palazzo Restaurant is known for its fine dining experience and is always a favourite amongst guests. The AUREVO restaurant specialises in Italian fusion foods with an exciting twist. Le Marzoline restaurant is designed to pay homage to Emilia-Romagna’s famous trattoria eateries. This is classic Italian food served in a simple yet effective way.
Despite being out in the countryside, the Palazzo di Varignana is very well connected. Bologna airport is just 28km away, as is the Bologna Golf Club. The Golf Club Le Fonti is less than 10km away, for golfers who want to enjoy a fantastic risk and reward course. There are many other course options within an hour’s drive of the resort.
The club is situated in the fascinating Sillaro Valley, with a mild and pleasant microclimate, surrounded by gently rolling hills.
Nearby there are several important and attractive health and spa facilities, such as the Castel San Pietro Spa Centre and the Salute Più Health Village, where treatments for physical and mental wellbeing can be combined with the game of golf.
The course, which stretches for a total of 6,480 metres, has 18 holes and is par 72, and is extremely varied and entertaining both for experienced players and beginners. The clubhouse provides catering services with an excellent restaurant that develops the local traditions of food and wine with flair and impeccable hospitality. Together with the surrounding area, the course, overlooking the spa facilities and on the outskirts of the mediaeval town, offers an ample variety of opportunities for fine dining, recreation, cultural activities, sports and music that allow guests to enjoy a pleasant and unforgettable stay.
In 2006 and 2007 the Le Fonti Golf Club hosted the Qualifying School of the Ladies European Tour, and in 2009, 2010 and 2011 it was chosen for an event of the Alps Tour international professional men’s golf circuit. Since 2007 it has been accredited as the headquarters of the Ladies Federal Technical Centre, and it also hosts a branch of the famous Blue Team Golf Academy, which organizes individual and group golf clinics with modern coaching facilities, intended in particular for foreign tourists, with English, German and French teachers.
One of the classic Italian courses, designed by Cotton & Harris and built in 1959, the golf club is situated on the splendid rolling countryside with marvellous sweeping panoramic views across the surrounding hills and plains. Its layout is constantly being updated and in recent years, it has played host to the Italian Amateur Championships many times as well as to a great number of top-level professional competitions.
The smart and elegant clubhouse blends in well with the surrounding countryside and is the ideal place to sample the refined cuisine of the club restaurant, which has been named amongst the top ten club restaurants in Italy on more than one occasion. The club’s facilities are completed by a
splendid summer swimming pool, open from June to mid-September. In 2000, Peter Alliss made some changes to the course.
Molina Del Pero Golf Course
Molino del Pero Golf Club offers an 18-hole par 70 course that covers 5,480 metres and is varied, technical and fun. Set in the magnificent Apennines near Bologna, it perfectly combines the exigencies of the most skilled players with those of players who consider golfing to enjoy the surroundings to the full.
The first 9 holes, which are short and technically demanding, are perfectly complemented by the second 9 holes that are much longer and wider but equally spectacular. Thanks to the particularly pleasant climate – breezy in the summer and never foggy in winter – it is possible to play here all year round. It has a wonderful clubhouse located in a converted hay barn and its enormous oak beams and large fireplace ensure it is always warm and welcoming. The restaurant, in the old grinding room, serves excellent quality, traditional local cuisine.
Modena Golf Course
The Modena Golf & Country Club is situated in a strategic position and it can be reached, quickly and easily, from any direction. In fact, downtown Modena (only 10 km away), Sassuolo, Vignola, Carpi and other interesting towns are all nearby.
Spread over 100 hectares and built following a design by the German champion Bernhard Langer, assisted by the American architect Jim Eng from Boulder, Colorado, this course is one of the finest in Italy. The wide greens and tees, the smoothly winding fairways, the large “hungry” bunkers
and the numerous, extra-large water hazards make this course the ideal venue for top-level competitions such as the Italian Open, which celebrated its 50th edition here. An executive course, a well-equipped driving range and two tennis courts complete the sports facilities on offer.
The club also features a fine gourmet restaurant, where sophisticated and local dishes can be relished, a cosy bar and coffee-shop, two swimming pools, a billiard room, a gym and TV and card lounges to welcome players and their guests after their golfing “efforts”.
Argenta Golf Course
Argenta’s picturesque golf course features 18 holes and is located between Ferrara and Ravenna, 40 min from the sea and from Bologna.
It is surrounded by the Po Delta regional park, near the Argenta natural reserve Valle Santa. The ideal location to meet sport, tourist, cultural and gastronomic demands.
The course is integrated into the surrounding area following its rolling terrain and river banks. Water hazards, low dunes with groves, local essence bushes and six elevated teeing grounds are the main features of this technical and varied track. Designed by Giovanni Trasforini in 1991, with strengthened grounds and luxuriant trees, the golf club has hosted Emilia Romagna regional championships, junior and professional tournaments.
In 2012, following the change of ownership, new investments in the Argenta Golf Club have led to a series of improvements. The scenic landscape, the track, the new organization, the quality of accommodation and the friendliness of the people all contribute to choosing this striking course for their golfing needs.
