It is just 2km from the Royal Hotel Carlton to the nearest course. The Golf Club Bologna is situated in the rolling Emilia Romagna countryside, and regularly plays host to the Italian Amateur Championships. Slightly further afield, guests can easily find the Golf Club Le Fonti (which is rich with challenging water holes) and the Golf Club Molino del Pero (which is technical but fun). There are many other courses within an hour’s drive of the city, so guests will have plenty of choices.
Away from the course, the hotel is ideally located for guests to be able to experience all that Bologna has to offer. The historic centre is just a few minutes’ walks away, so guests can enjoy all of the fantastic architecture in the area. In summer, the nearby square also plays host to music, film and cultural events which show off the best that Italy has to offer.
C.U.S. Ferrara Golf Club has a really unusual characteristic on the Italian golfing scene, situated in the enchanting area near the town park and overlooking the Estensi walls in the north of the city, it is less than 500 metres from the old town centre of Ferrara.
Adjacent to the other university sports facilities, where it is possible to practice various disciplines under the guidance of expert instructors, C.U.S. Ferrara Golf Club offers rates that are accessible to everyone, thanks to a shrewd policy that doesn’t only address the academic world.
It was the first Italian golf course to reach a special agreement with the Italian Golf Federation. In fact, it was first extended in 1996 thanks to funding by the Federation itself, and since 2004 has offered 18 regulation holes over an interesting course marked here and
there with autochthonous trees and plants.
The San Valentino Golf Club is situated in a valley over 300 metres above sea level in the neighbourhood of the same name, in the municipality of Castellarano. It is surrounded by over 130 hectares of woodland and green pastures and boasts 4 lakes. It is a setting where the scales undeniably tip in favour of nature and the top-quality services offered blend in perfectly with the surroundings. Despite the few water obstacles, the 18-hole championship golf course is highly intriguing thanks to its hilly terrain and the considerable difference in height between the holes. The very fast greens are nearly all protected by bunkers. The width of the fairways varies, with constantly changing degrees of difficulty and emotion. The beautiful clubhouse, which covers an area of over 3,000 square metres, stands between holes 9 and 18 and welcomes players and their partners in elegant and comfortable surroundings.
The club is situated in the fascinating Sillaro Valley, with a mild and pleasant microclimate, surrounded by gently rolling hills.
Nearby there are several important and attractive health and spa facilities, such as the Castel San Pietro Spa Centre and the Salute Più Health Village, where treatments for physical and mental wellbeing can be combined with the game of golf.
The course, which stretches for a total of 6,480 metres, has 18 holes and is par 72, and is extremely varied and entertaining both for experienced players and beginners. The clubhouse provides catering services with an excellent restaurant that develops the local traditions of food and wine with flair and impeccable hospitality. Together with the surrounding area, the course, overlooking the spa facilities and on the outskirts of the mediaeval town, offers an ample variety of opportunities for fine dining, recreation, cultural activities, sports and music that allow guests to enjoy a pleasant and unforgettable stay.
In 2006 and 2007 the Le Fonti Golf Club hosted the Qualifying School of the Ladies European Tour, and in 2009, 2010 and 2011 it was chosen for an event of the Alps Tour international professional men’s golf circuit. Since 2007 it has been accredited as the headquarters of the Ladies Federal Technical Centre, and it also hosts a branch of the famous Blue Team Golf Academy, which organizes individual and group golf clinics with modern coaching facilities, intended in particular for foreign tourists, with English, German and French teachers.
One of the classic Italian courses, designed by Cotton & Harris and built in 1959, the golf club is situated on the splendid rolling countryside with marvellous sweeping panoramic views across the surrounding hills and plains. Its layout is constantly being updated and in recent years, it has played host to the Italian Amateur Championships many times as well as to a great number of top-level professional competitions.
The smart and elegant clubhouse blends in well with the surrounding countryside and is the ideal place to sample the refined cuisine of the club restaurant, which has been named amongst the top ten club restaurants in Italy on more than one occasion. The club’s facilities are completed by a
splendid summer swimming pool, open from June to mid-September. In 2000, Peter Alliss made some changes to the course.
Molina Del Pero Golf Course
Molino del Pero Golf Club offers an 18-hole par 70 course that covers 5,480 metres and is varied, technical and fun. Set in the magnificent Apennines near Bologna, it perfectly combines the exigencies of the most skilled players with those of players who consider golfing to enjoy the surroundings to the full.
The first 9 holes, which are short and technically demanding, are perfectly complemented by the second 9 holes that are much longer and wider but equally spectacular. Thanks to the particularly pleasant climate – breezy in the summer and never foggy in winter – it is possible to play here all year round. It has a wonderful clubhouse located in a converted hay barn and its enormous oak beams and large fireplace ensure it is always warm and welcoming. The restaurant, in the old grinding room, serves excellent quality, traditional local cuisine.
Modena Golf Course
The Modena Golf & Country Club is situated in a strategic position and it can be reached, quickly and easily, from any direction. In fact, downtown Modena (only 10 km away), Sassuolo, Vignola, Carpi and other interesting towns are all nearby.
Spread over 100 hectares and built following a design by the German champion Bernhard Langer, assisted by the American architect Jim Eng from Boulder, Colorado, this course is one of the finest in Italy. The wide greens and tees, the smoothly winding fairways, the large “hungry” bunkers
and the numerous, extra-large water hazards make this course the ideal venue for top-level competitions such as the Italian Open, which celebrated its 50th edition here. An executive course, a well-equipped driving range and two tennis courts complete the sports facilities on offer.
The club also features a fine gourmet restaurant, where sophisticated and local dishes can be relished, a cosy bar and coffee-shop, two swimming pools, a billiard room, a gym and TV and card lounges to welcome players and their guests after their golfing “efforts”.
Argenta Golf Course
Argenta’s picturesque golf course features 18 holes and is located between Ferrara and Ravenna, 40 min from the sea and from Bologna.
It is surrounded by the Po Delta regional park, near the Argenta natural reserve Valle Santa. The ideal location to meet sport, tourist, cultural and gastronomic demands.
The course is integrated into the surrounding area following its rolling terrain and river banks. Water hazards, low dunes with groves, local essence bushes and six elevated teeing grounds are the main features of this technical and varied track. Designed by Giovanni Trasforini in 1991, with strengthened grounds and luxuriant trees, the golf club has hosted Emilia Romagna regional championships, junior and professional tournaments.
In 2012, following the change of ownership, new investments in the Argenta Golf Club have led to a series of improvements. The scenic landscape, the track, the new organization, the quality of accommodation and the friendliness of the people all contribute to choosing this striking course for their golfing needs.
