Golf Holidays in Slovenia
Slovenia is a destination yet to be discovered by tourism. Although numbers have increased over the years, it is still under the radar and boasts incredible amounts of untouched nature, fantastic accommodation options and unforgettable cuisine. The golfing experience is equally enjoyable since the country offers a wide spectrum of golf facilities. Scattered around the country, practically every geographic region has fantastic golf courses, paired with exquisite hotels and exceptional gastronomy.
The capital Ljubljana is the first to be discovered. Apart from the main sights like the Triple Bridge, Ljubljana Castle, and Prešeren Square, Ljubljana offers some gorgeous golf courses. The main two being Diners GC and Arboretum GC, although some smaller courses and practice facilities can be found around the city. Diners Golf Course is a young course with a magnificent championship layout. Long and wide holes with enormous greens make the course enjoyable and fun yet challenging to play. Arboretum, on the other hand, is a bit shorter course with a longer and richer tradition.
In the northeastern part of Slovenia is located the Gorenjska region. Bordering on the Julian Alps, it is probably the most visually impressive place in Slovenia. The only Slovenian island is located on Lake Bled, underneath the charming medieval Castle Bled. Boutique accommodation options and high-end restaurants have transformed Bled into a prime tourism destination. It is also home to the most exclusive golf course, The Royal Bled Golf Course. This 27-hole championship course just recently went through a large renovation and redesign project. Without a doubt, Bled GC is the most remarkable golf facility in Slovenia.
Heading towards Štajerska region, one can find the Ptuj Golf Course. It is located next to the oldest town in Slovenia, Ptuj. The medieval castle and surrounding vineyards provide a fantastic atmosphere and ambient. Ptuj GC annually hosts the European Challenge Tour and is known for its difficulty. Most memorable being the 14th hole, a long par-3 where players need to hit an island green.
Continuing further toward Hungary, the Terme 3000 complex awaits. Large hotels and thermal springs provide superb accommodation as well as wellness centers. The region is known for its black thermal water, outstanding gastronomy and friendly services. Simplicity with a touch of luxury is the key ingredients, which charm guests over and over again. Located close to Terme 3000 is the beautiful Livada Golf Course. Like the Prekmurje region itself, this golf course has a rather flat layout. It’s playable design and well-kept grass ensure a comfortable and easy game of golf.
In the southeast part of Slovenia, visitors find the Dolenjska region. Well known for its wine, cuisine and beautiful countryside, it offers a very traditional Slovenian experience. In the middle of the region is Otočec - a small town with a beautiful castle hotel and stunning golf course. The unique Castle Otočec hotel is located on a small islet of the emerald Krka river. The boutique hotel is located just next to the Otočec Golf Course - a championship course with an amazing architectural design. Lush forests, untouched nature and a touch of luxury are the trademarks of this fantastic Dolenjska region.
No matter if you choose the plains of Prekmurje or head over to the Royal Bled Golf Course, Slovenia has something to offer for your taste. Every square inch is worth exploring and every region offers something unique. A destination filled with friendly people, nature and outstanding golf awaits!
