Next to the main Prešern square, Triple Bridge and Ljubljana Castle is situated the lovely Grand Hotel Union. Like the name already implies, it truly is grand. The majestic hotel has a long and famous tradition, featuring not only an incredible hotel but also a wellness center, gym, restaurant and bar. Apart from that, the hotel also offers its Grand Hall and lounge. Both are frequently used for official receptions and events, hosting anything from political gatherings, prize ceremonies all the way to concerts and dance sessions.
Grand Hotel Union was designed in the Art Nouveau style and first opened its doors in 1905. At the time it was the tallest building in Ljubljana and designed by the renowned architect Josip Vancaš. The first modern hotel in Ljubljana was built in only 18 months and the opening ceremony lasted for seven days. Not only was the majestic building built blazing fast, but is due to its 100 metres long façade and a complex iron roof considered to be a great architectural achievement. Its location is at the end of the Baroque part of Ljubljana where the more modern Art Nouveau style buildings begin. City planning decided to first upgrade the hotel in 1968 and built an extension to it. In 1979 the nearby Holiday Inn was built, which is today known as the Grand Hotel Union Business. In 2002 the hotel’s interior was redecorated for the last time in order to more vividly preserve the original styles which were used over a century ago.
The rather large hotel complex offers 173 standard and historic rooms, 9 suites and 12 hotel studios. The hotel also offers a large conference hall, 120 secured parking spaces, large working space, indoor swimming pool, fitness centre and sauna center. The renowned restaurants Atelje and Restaurant Union offer fine dining and a top class culinary experience. A selection of fine coffee flavours as well as an extensive wine list is available for the guests and locals, which often frequent the establishment. The staff at Grand Hotel Union is professional and friendly, making sure that all guests are treated with respect and are catered to all their needs.
